Colorful And Lovely Quilled Paper Art By Runa Sena
Paper quilling is a form of art which includes strips of colourful papers that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create impressive designs.
During early times, monks and nuns used this art to decorate book covers and religious items. It also became popular in Europe as a past time for ladies who belonged to the upper class. Colonial North Americans also used this form of art to decorate candlesticks and tea bags.
Today, quilling is widely used to design different kinds of objects such as gift boxes, wearable jewelries, furniture, and mostly as framed art.
A quiller who has caught the media’s attention is Sena Runa.
She is from Istanbul, Turkey with BA degree from Marmara University.
After graduation in 2008, she worked as HR specialist and early this year
Runa left the corporate world and became a full-time quiller.
According to her website, she says “I began quilling in 2012. While I was searching the internet for inspiration to find the right hobby for me, I found a colourful picture that was made from paper using the quilling technique, but I had no idea what it was called. I tried to make it, but it turned out awful! Then I explored many quilled creations online, but soon found my own style of combining paper quilling and sketch. I design my own templates. Creating your style gives you a sense of freedom. I really enjoy designing things that I've never seen quilled by anyone else.”
Paper quilling gave Runa a new chapter in her life and gave her more opportunities to share the world the joy of her art.
