Interview: Travis Burke - Photographer, Lives In Mobile Home For Months And Takes Stunning Pics Of Places All Over North America
Travis Burke is a staff photographer at GrindTV.com who turned his grandma’s old van into a mobile home to travel across North America. Burke and his partner Shay have been motoring around the United States for almost 16 months to take some of the most stunning and inspiring pictures one can find.
Here is Travis, in his own words.
My name is Travis Burke, I am an adventurer and photographic artist who specializes in capturing unique perspectives and emotions within a landscape.
I recently converted my Grandmother's van into my dream adventure-mobile, which has allowed my partner Shay and I to travel full time and continuously shoot in diverse locations and meet up with different types of adventurers around the United States.
Whether it’s highlining over a 400-foot canyon, backpacking the entire John Muir Trail or capturing the Milky Way Galaxy in remote locations, I'm constantly pushing myself and the boundaries of my craft.
My diverse and creative approach to photography stems from my own perspective on life, I love the challenge of conquering anything thrown at me and living life with no regrets, which I believe shines through in my photographs!
Over the years I've become proficient in activities like surfing, slacklining, rock climbing, skateboarding, mountain biking, and even ping pong to name a few. If I'm going to be meeting with different athletes and photographing them I feel I should have a decent understanding of their sport. I want to represent them properly and by participating in the sports I learn the basics and can maximize my ability to get great photos. Plus I thoroughly enjoy pushing myself in different ways so it ends up being a win, win.
In the end, my main goal is to keep people inspired. You don't need to plan an elaborate vacation to wind up in a beautiful or unique location, our own backyard has so much to offer. By constantly pursuing new adventures I hope that I can creatively encourage others to search for the same. Get out there!
