"Lion King" Animator Paints Regal Tribute To Cecil The Lion

Aaron Blaise, an Oscar-nominated animator and animator for the “Lion King”, has created a moving artwork to memorialize Cecil the Lion. His goal is to call attention to the unnecessary killings of these magnificent creatures by Western hunters.

On his blog, Blaise writes:

“I am a HUGE animal lover and it drives me crazy when I see these beautiful creatures destroyed for no good reason. As some of you may also know I was one of the animators on “The Lion King”. When I heard the news about Cecil I got inspired to create a tribute image. It’s not much but hopefully it will make people think.” The process to create the image is shown in a time-lapse video below.

A quote on the artwork is from the Lion King. Simba’s father Musafa, reads: “Look at the stars. The great kings from the past look down upon us from those stars.”

Prints of his artwork are now available for sale and according to his site, profits will go to WildCru, the organization that originally studies Cecil and his pride. Here is the link to purchase prints of the artwork:
