Taiwan Builds Giant Glass Shoe Church To Attract Female Worshippers
In Taiwan, a giant church shaped like a high-heeled shoe has been built to appeal to lady worshipers.
Situated at the Ocean View Park in Budai town, on the east coast of Taiwan, the colossal shoe is made out of about 320 tinted glass panels. Measuring 55ft tall and 36ft wide, the shiny church took two months of construction to finish.
The government officials in Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, who are behind the creation of the church, says that the church will be primarily used for pre-wedding photo shoots and wedding ceremonies and not for regular services.
Government spokesman Zheng Rongfeng told local media Huanqiu.com that the giant shoe glass church was made to attract women worshippers. "There will be 100 female-oriented features in the church like maple leaves, chairs for lovers, biscuits and cakes”, he said. "It will be tailored to women, especially female tourists visiting the area."
BBC reports that the shoe design was inspired by a story of a woman who devoted her whole life in the church after her scheduled wedding was cancelled. She suffered a kind of foot disease which led her both legs amputated according to officials in the 1960’s.
