Topmix Permeable: Concrete That Absorbs Water Like A Sponge
Water retained in some areas caused by a sudden rainstorm is one of the problems in low-lying paved urban areas.
Lafarge Tarmac has created a solution to the problem, and they named it the Topmix Permeable. Topmix has the ability to swallow a large volume of water in just a short time. Tarmac posted a video in YouTube showing their latest invention being tested.
In this remarkable video, it shows a parking space paved with a TopmixPermeable absorbing 4,000 liters of water in just one minute. The water poured by a mixer truck almost immediately disappears as it hits the ground.
This technology has the potential to combat flash flooding although it is not applicable in some area like highways handle heavy loaded vehicles. Preferred uses for this concrete mixture are for areas such as parking spaces, driveways, and any other place that does not handle heavy traffic.
“Topmix Permeable is a fast draining concrete pavement solution that rapidly directs storm water off streets, parking surfaces, driveways and walkways. This minimizes the cost and long-term maintenance for local authorities and developers of storm water management.” Tarmac says on its video caption.
