Omid Asadi (Deh Mirahmadi), an artist from Sale, Greater Manchester, delicately carves images into fallen leaves using a special knife and a needle.
Originally a native of Iran, Omid says in his website, “I collect beautiful leaves, dries and presses the leaves before sketching out complicated patterns to apply to each one after sketching I start cutting with knife. Each piece can take between a week and two months to complete as a slight slip of the hand could rip the surface and destroy hours of work.”
One of his inspirations comes from his childhood when he drew on roses leaves using a needle. He left these works behind when he immigrated. Three years ago, while he was walking at the park with his wife, they noticed the beautiful and colorful leaves but nobody was paying attention to them. They collected the leaves to use as decoration for their house. Later, memories from the past came back and he was inspired to use a knife and a needle again and make art from the leaves.
Omid Asadi works have been exhibited in London, Milan and Manchester.
