Styrofoam has been a part of people’s everyday lives for decades and usually comes in the form of a container for food and beverages. Unfortunately, this kind of plastic has a profound ecological impact on this planet. Since styrofoam is non-biodegradable, it takes more than 500 years to decompose and it is considered a major environmental problem. Each year, the world produces tons of polystyrene products and if it is not recycled, it ends up in landfills.
This problem has prompted American fast food chain restaurant Chick-fil-A to come up with a better idea to recycle Styrofoam cups. Instead of letting the garbage truck collector pick up the used cups, they segregate these for recycle and turn into something usable.
Every week, the restaurant takes hundreds bags of used cups to a recycling facility. The styrofoam product goes through a recycling process that transform the cups into beautiful park benches.
Watch the video below to see how these used cups are reincarnated into something beautiful and very functional.
