English conservationist Damian Aspinall had raised a gorilla named Kwibi in his Howletts Wild Animal Park in England. In 2005, as part of a conservation program to re-introduce gorillas back into the wild, Damian released the 5-year old Kwibi into the forest of Gabon in West Africa.
Five years later, Aspinall tracked down Kwibi in the forest. Kwibi was already leading a band of gorillas in the wild and hasn’t been with humans for years. Even though Damian raised Kwibi, there was no guarantee Kwibi would remember Damian but the conservationist was determined to meet him again.
In an interview posted at www.today.com, Damian says, “I wasn't 100 percent sure. You never know. He is a wild animal now. But you know, deep inside, you believe that things will be OK”.
As Damian and his team go up and down the Gabon jungle river, he calls out Kwibi. Kwibi finally emerges from the forest. Will Kwibi attack him? Or even remember him? Watch the heart-warming video below.
